Overview

Alfani 149 Restaurant, nestled on Via degli Alfani in the heart of Florence, offers a refreshing departure from the city's staple Italian fare. This Chinese eatery invites both locals and travelers craving authentic Asian flavors to indulge in a menu rich with tradition and subtle innovation. Its location, a stone’s throw from the renowned Academia Gallery, makes it an ideal stop for a satisfying meal after exploring Florence’s cultural gems.

The heart of Alfani 149’s appeal lies in its diverse array of Chinese dishes that blend familiarity with regional specialties. Signature plates like the Shanghai Fried Rice and Grandma's Rice showcase homestyle cooking, delivering comforting aromas and robust flavors that resonate with anyone familiar with Chinese cuisine. Dumplings and steamed chicken, respected staples, are executed with care, balancing delicate textures and authentic seasoning.

Alongside classics, the menu ventures into more contemporary selections such as mala xiang guo, offering a gentle introduction to spiced dishes that steer clear of overwhelming heat. The Pollo In Salsa Agrodolce and Scallion Chicken stand out as well-seasoned options, highlighting skillful preparation that honors traditional methods while appealing to a broad audience.

Diners seeking a break from Italian staples like pasta and pizza often find comfort here, appreciating the authenticity that Malaysian Chinese and other patrons frequently mention.

Served alongside thoughtfully chosen side dishes such as Water Spinach and Fried Rice Cakes, the dishes emphasize freshness and balanced seasoning. Customer reviews consistently note the satisfying, home-style quality of the food and the opportunity to experience genuine Chinese tastes without leaving Italy. While the service is described as functional rather than exceptional, it complements the relaxed vibe of the restaurant, making it a welcoming stop for a midday or evening meal.

Ultimately, Alfani 149 Restaurant is a commendable destination for those eager to explore authentic Chinese cuisine amid Florence’s artistic allure. It offers a genuine culinary experience that feels like a brief journey to Asia, appealing to food lovers eager to diversify their palates beyond the expected Mediterranean fare.

I'm Malaysian Chinese. I have ordered fried rice, pork ribs noodles and spicy fried chicken. The food is very authentic Chinese cuisine. To anyone sick of eating pasta, pizza and panini should give this place a try to satisfy the home sickness of Chinese food.

Was looking for different food after days of pizza / pasta and limited veg etc and Alfani 149 perfectly delivered. Nothing fancy just good, well-seasoned, generously portioned Chinese food - wonton soup was lovely and warming with lots of wonton for 3 people, sweet and sour pork as you'd expect, crispy pork ribs had a good spice to them, grandma rice was nice and you can't go wrong with the pak choi which came with tasty mushrooms.

Authentic asian flavors, bursting with aroma, spices, and heat. Service is ok. Price is good. A stone throne away from Academia, a perfect spot for a post museum visit break.

We came for a trip to Italy and along with the place, we fell in love with this chinese restaurant too. We ordered Grandma's fried rice, steamed chicken dumplings, ramen, gabao chicken and in-house red wine. Everything was heaven, very delicious and i felt it was worth every penny we spent. Highly recommended.

Very good food, friendly waitress and pretty good service. Only downside was that it might've left us with a bit of nausea after 2ish hours. I'm chalking that up to the amount of oil/chilly oil the food that, and i'm sensitive to that.

Wow, highly recommend this authentic Chinese cuisine spot. We are a Chinese-Canadian family and came here twice in our trip because of how tasty and true the flavors are. A mix of locals and visitors here! Some dishes we recommend: the fried green beans, eggplant, the nian gao (fried rice cakes) is a must have (hard to make like this!). We also appreciated the you tiao (fried gluten) in the grandma’s fried noodles, unique and great! Vegetarian and vegan options were easy to find. The chef is clearly very skilled :) The staff are very friendly, accommodating to specific requests, overall wonderful atmosphere!

After a few days in Italy and being Asian, I think I’m up to eating Chinese food again. Husband found this Ristorante Alfani which is a walk from our apartment near the Ponte Vecchio bridge and I’m not lying that we went there again the 2nd night. It’s worth the walk. It’s funny that the place gets crowded starting 9pm for dinner (such late eaters in Italy). Place is very clean, serves chopsticks and fork+spoon. Come and enjoy the meal just like us!!!
